“The Light of the World”

John 8:12

The use of the word light  when referring to Jesus is full of meaning. John first introduced us to The Light  in 1:4-5, and develops the concept throughout the gospel. This morning we are going to consider Jesus as “The Light of the World”.

Jesus is The Light of the World

□ The I AM  claims of Jesus – John 8:12a;  8:56-58;  Exodus 3:13-15

□ Jesus is The Light  of the World – John 8:12a; 1:4-5, 9; 3:18-21

The World is full of Darkness

□ Darkness prevents us from seeing clearly – John 8:12b;  Ephesians 4:17-19

□ Satan tries to keep us in the dark – 2 Corinthians 4:4-6; 11:13-15

Jesus gives us the Light of Life

□ He shows us the right way to live – John 8:12c; 10:10

□ He guides us safely to Salvation – John 12:35-36; 14:6;  Mark 16:15-16
